Press Release

CDF Chairman Chang Chia-juch granted CDF Vocational Skills Scholarships to certain distinguished students on the group’s end-of-year charity day. The program targets students who face financial difficulties or have potential in music, art, sports, and vocational skills, helping them unlock their gifts and master a potential future profession. In 2018, the program awarded grants of over NT$1mn to more than 100 students.

At the awards ceremony, Chairman Chang encouraged young people to bravely pursue their dreams so as to carve out a niche for themselves. Chang said he saw the efforts by the CDIB Education and Cultural Affairs Foundation paying off from the impressive performance of these young students and the confident expressions on their faces. These are very encouraging results from fulfilling the company’s charitable policy of “education, the best investment”.

Wu En-ci from the Department of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University and Wang Wei-chih, a graduate of Huwei Agricultural & Industrial Vocational Senior High School, represented scholarship holders to attend the ceremony. Wu is one of the painters of the 2019 CDF desk calendars featuring watercolor paintings of fruits of Taiwan, China and Southeast Asia, where CDF runs operations. Using vivid colors, Wu depicts the concept of “sow the seeds of hard work to reap the sweet fruits of success”. This calendar became a popular New Year’s gift within CDF Group. The original paintings were on display in the CDF headquarters hall as part of the charity sale and were sold out immediately. On the day, Wu also drew sketches of CDF Chairman Chang, CDF President Alan Wang and KGI Bank President Richard Chang, who all said the sketches look real.

Wang Wei-chih, after going through the National Team Selection last November, represented Taiwan in WorldSkills Asia 2018 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, and won a gold medal in the category of plastering and drywall systems. He will continue to receive training for national competitions, preparing for the next battle in the WorldSkills Competition, to be held in Kazan, Russia in August 2019. Wang said CDF’s monthly scholarships cover his living expenses, allowing him to stay focused on honing his skills during the ten months preparing for the National Team Selection tests. The program was the biggest driver of his stellar performances in international competitions.

CDF has been fostering art talent through the CDIB Education and Cultural Affairs Foundation’s various programs, from the Dumbo Scholarship program, which helps elementary and junior high school students with potential learn art, to the Vocational Skills Scholarship program (starting in 2017), which helps high school and college students continue enhancing skills with resources from CDF. The Vocational Skills Scholarship program is open for applications, with regulations available on the website of the CDIB Education and Cultural Affairs Foundation.
