China Development Financial Holding (CDF) announced on November 29 that it will sponsor the Taiwan International Festival of Arts (TIFA), hosted by the National Theater & Concert Hall, in 2019. This will be the second consecutive year that CDF contributes to the event as a sponsor. On behalf of the company, Mr. Hsu Daw-yi, Chairman of KGI Securities and Director of the CDIB Education and Cultural Affairs Foundation, noted at the press conference that CDF has long been a supporter of art talent cultivation in Taiwan, and by extending its TIFA sponsorship, the firm hopes to bring more resources to support performance arts in Taiwan and help promising performers reach out to the global arena.

TIFA is one of the best-known art events in Asia, boasting artistic and entertaining performances. The 2019 event will feature nineteen showings by artists from twelve countries and seventeen promoting activities, which is why TIFA is the most important highlight of the year in Taiwan’s art community.

Chairman Hsu shared a story of himself being touched by arts: in spring 2018, when the world paid tribute to Ms. Pina Bausch, also known as the First Lady of German modern dancing, CDF was the first Taiwanese company that celebrated the achievements of Ms. Bausch. Thirty CDF employees performed the classic Four Season Dance of Ms. Bausch at the company headquarters. Seeing his colleagues dance in the office so naturally, Hsu realized that arts are not something far away and untouchable, but rather an enjoyment within the grasp of common people.

Hsu also mentioned that the long-term commitment of CDF in fostering local art talent is actually in line with the four motifs that the National Theater & Concert Hall outlined for the 2019 TIFA, which are Talent, Inspiration, Foresight and Amazement. “The purpose of our sponsorship in a variety of art education programs is to promote art education at the grass roots level, and inspire creativity among people,” said Hsu. CDF has constructed its corporate giving initiatives in recent years based on the guidelines of “art talent cultivation” and “arts and creativity development”. For talent cultivation, the Our Class Has Got Talent program and scholarships for skill trainees have been put into place to help students with outstanding potential realize their dreams. Regarding arts and creativity development, CDF has sponsored a variety of local and international art events and cultural exhibitions so that people who enjoy art performances in Taiwan have access to more inspiring content and a more nurturing environment for artists can be created in Taiwan.
