“This Generative AI Hackathon perfectly embodies CDF's corporate value of Entrepreneurial," Steve Bertamini, President and CEO of CDF

As part of its Accelerate Digital strategy, China Development Financial (hereafter referred as "CDF") recently hosted two Generative AI Hackathon to encourage its employees to demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset. Over 200 colleagues participated in the event, utilizing the latest generative AI tools to propose innovative financial solutions to common pain points.

Steve Bertamini, President and CEO of CDF, said, “this Generative AI Hackathon perfectly embodies CDF's corporate value of Entrepreneurial." Participants were tasked with identifying problems and proposing groundbreaking solutions, highlighting the need for both problem-solving skills and execution capability. This approach allows CDF to improve its competitiveness, promote corporate transformation, and become a leading financial company in Asia by leveraging innovative solutions and a strong entrepreneurial spirit.

The CDF Generative AI Hackathon was open not only to employees from the group and its subsidiaries, but also to industry partners such as Microsoft, ITRI, Google, ChoozMo, SYSTEX Corporation, and eCloudvalley Digital Technology. These partners provided technical consultations to help participants develop more feasible AI applications. Teams were required to use generative AI technology and tools within a specific time frame to propose ideas that optimize processes or improve customer experience. The winning solution was chosen through a voting process that balanced creativity and efficiency. CDF plans to integrate these solutions with its core business in the future and connect internal and external partner resources to enhance its business applications.

Terence Yeung, Chief Information Officer of CDF, stated that the company's first internal hackathon event received an overwhelming response, with employees from its subsidiaries including KGI Bank, KGI Securities, KGI Site, China Life and CDIB Capital, signing up to participate. In addition to allowing colleagues to gain a deeper understanding of the latest trends and applications of generative AI, the event also encourages colleagues to complete their daily work in a more digital and innovative way through the exchange of different ideas.

In response to this growing AI trend, CDF's current AI applications focus on optimizing internal processes. The company recently launched Teams AI tool, which uses a chatbot mode to assist colleagues in quickly completing daily document processing needs. Going forward, CDF will continue to make use of new technologies to improve operational efficiency and develop a comprehensive AI development plan that takes into account governance, business needs, technical functions, tools, platforms, and other aspects.
