To ensure financial assistance is getting extended to students and families in need, CDF Foundation has committed to keeping the "Heritage 100 × Tutoring 100 Project" up and running during the pandemic, as it provides necessary aid to program participants in hardship.

Since the escalating COVID-19 pandemic outbreak triggered a nationwide Level-3 epidemic alert, the domestic consumer economy has been bearing the brunt. Among people being impacted are the countless low-income college students who rely on part-time jobs and side-gigs to pay the bills and repay student loans. To ensure financial assistance is getting extended to students and families in need, CDF Foundation has committed to keeping the "Heritage 100 × Tutoring 100 Project" up and running during the pandemic, as it provides necessary aid to program participants in hardship.

Virtually all occupations are experiencing the impact, but it is those college students who have to provide for themselves that feel the deepest pain. For Ding, a recipient currently enrolled at Fujen University, a main source of income was lost as part-time jobs have all disappeared since the latest outbreak, forcing restaurants around campus to shut down. Right now, this is the difficult situation many low-income college students are living through, and they are the ones who most need assistance to help ease their financial burdens.

To ensure financial assistance is getting extended to students and families in need, CDF Foundation remains committed to keeping "Heritage 100 × Tutoring 100" up and running despite encountering administrative difficulties with staff working in split operation during the pandemic. Determined to pull through, the team managed to process applicants’ entries and will proceed to offer grants to 100 selected volunteers of the 2021 program. Additionally, the Foundation also notified recipients from last year’s program to cancel their tutoring sessions to adhere to CDC guidance, while offering to provide these volunteers with aid at their request.

It is CDF’s fundamental belief that "education is the most valuable investment, and companionship is the most influential force we can offer our children," which is why it’s always compelled to address education as the theme of public engagement under corporate social responsibility. And thanks to support from CDF Foundation throughout the years, our efforts are carried out in a series of outreach programs, focusing on under-resourced school children from rural areas. The "Heritage 100 × Tutoring 100” aid program allocates NT$5mn each year as grants to 100 college students, who serve as volunteering private tutors to help a participating schoolkid with studies and offer companionship. In its 14th year and running, the program embodies CDF’s vision of taking action to help under-resourced students weather the pandemic.
