Press Release

The Hualien area was hit by a powerful earthquake on February 6. Following the disaster, China Development Financial (CDF) announced a donation of NT$5.0mn. When CDF learned that music instruments at a number of Hualien schools were destroyed by the earthquake, management decided to assist Ming Yih Primary School, Hua Gang Junior High School, and National Hualien Senior High School with the purchase of new instruments.

These three schools have made great achievements in various music competitions in recent years. In the National Music Competition held this past March, Ming Yih Primary School’s traditional Chinese orchestra, percussion orchestra, traditional Chinese chamber orchestra, and string orchestra won top honors, Hua Gang Junior High School received distinguished prizes in both the symphony orchestra and traditional Chinese chamber orchestra competitions, and National Hualien Senior High School won the excellence prize for the wind and percussion symphony.

To express gratitude to CDF for its assistance with the purchase of new music instruments, Ming Yih Primary School held a special concert and invited CDF and KGI Bank employees and customers to attend. Wu Hui-Zhen, Principal of Ming Yih Primary School, said art education in Hualien requires the effort of Hualien residents, but more than that, needs the support of all walks of life to keep music education alive. Eddy Chang, a CDF spokesperson, said the concert showcased a very high level of musical talent. The performance venue was sold out, with more than 800 people in attendance, which illustrates how successful local music education programs have been.

Eddy Chang further stated CDF’s donations have always been focused on education. From the dust explosion tragedy at Formosa Fun Coast Water Park to Tainan’s earthquake, we have used company charity resources to ensure education continues uninterrupted. Be it studies or extracurricular activities, it is our hope that the impact of disasters on students is minimized and that the affected people return to normal life as soon as possible. In the case of the dust explosion at the Formosa Fun Coast Water Park in 2015, we provided tuition for economically disadvantaged victims to finish college. In the case of the 2016 Tainan earthquake, we established educational trust funds for five orphaned children.

CDF believes corporate social responsibility is not simply a slogan. Education, public welfare, art, and culture are all areas where CDF fulfills its corporate social responsibility. We are committed to providing long-term assistance for Taiwan’s most vulnerable citizens. CDF believes that doing good at home is the social responsibility of a successful enterprise, and is the best way to support the country’s competitiveness on a global scale.
